Calathea likes consistently, moderately moist soil, but can still get root rot if too wet. Let the top inch of soil dry  a bit before thoroughly watering. Because he's tropical, he needs bright indirect light, warmer temps, and humidity to do his best. This plant takes a little bit to find a routine and placement that works, but once you get it, its easy peasy!
